BRIEF SYNOPSIS: Caribbean Studies in Practice: A Guided Workbook into Caribbean Society, Culture and Development is a workbook based on the structure of the CXC CAPE ® Caribbean Studies syllabus. The workbook is divided into 3 sections, with the first two sections addressing Modules I and II of the syllabus. The chapters that cover Module I (Chapters 1-8) highlight the impact that history and geography have had on Caribbean society, culture and its people. Module II is contained in Chapters 9-15 which examine the various factors and institutions that have shaped Caribbean economic and human development. Each chapter begins with a glossary creation exercise to help students become familiar with terms that they would encounter while reading that chapter. Each chapter then continues with expositions on the particular topic accompanied by short-answer questions and CAPE past paper essay planning activities. The third section covers Module III, providing guided instructions and suggested templates for writing the Internal Assessment (IA). Caribbean Studies in Practice was designed as a practical tool to enable students to improve their analytical and writing skills, to better prepare them for the Paper 2 (Essays) of the Caribbean Studies examination. Additionally, this workbook aims to encourage a deeper reflective engagement among students and thereby engender Caribbean students, who possess a keen interest the history, culture and development of the region in which they reside.
