Curriculum Coordinator - Ms Theresa Neblett-Skinner

The core of the responsibility of the Curriculum Officer is to monitor the implementation of the curriculum (in this case History) at the primary and secondary levels. This requires ensuring that teachers effectively utilize the prescribed curriculum – inclusive of its goals and objectives, recommended strategies/approaches, and assessment framework. Additionally, the Curriculum Officer supports teachers by developing and strengthening their pedagogy through the organization of workshops and the provision of other training opportunities.

The status of the discipline both locally and regionally is at a critical juncture as evidenced by the findings and recommendations of the CXC Task Force Report on the decline of History in the Caribbean. The reshaping of the curriculum at the various levels will be a critical vehicle for history reclaiming its place in our schools. The CPDD is poised to support and partner in the efforts being made by all stakeholders including the Departments of History at the tertiary level, the CXC, history teachers and by extension, the HTATT.
